Boutique hotels and b&b's are opening like crazy in the Catskills, just a two hour drive or so from Midtown in New York City. This part of New York is perfect for a long weekend year round. There are lakes and rivers for Summer, hiking in the Fall, skiing in the Winter & wine and whiskey tastings in the Spring. Here are a few of our favorite places to stay while visiting!
The Starlite Hotel thestarlitemotel.com in Kerhonkson, brings the kitsch back to the Catskills. This is a former motor lodge from the 1960s that recently has been renovated into a boutqiue hotel for the 21st century. After a hike in Minnewaska State Park, take a dip in their newly refurbished salt water pool. Across the street is Kelder's Farm keldersfarm.com where during the Fall you can get lost in their corn maze on a Saturday afternoon!
Another great place for a weekend stay is the Shandaken Inn shandakeninn.com, located in Shandaken is close to the ski resorts of Belleayre and Hunter Mountain, so perfect for those that love hitting the slopes! The Inn was originally the clubhouse for the Rip Van Winkle Golf Course and is almost 100 years old. With Malin & Goetz bath amenities, Frette linens and Peloton Bikes in their gym, you know you are in good hands when you check in!
Hasbrouck House hasbrouckhouse.com has been open for a few years, but is still one of our favorites. This boutique hotel has a fab pool scene, the restaurant Butterfield and a great cocktail lounge. During the Summer, the hotel shows movies out on their lawn for a fun nighttime experience (don't forget your bug spray!) Located in Stone Ridge, you are close to the hamlets of High Falls and Rosendale which have great home goods stores for a little retail therapy.
Kingston is now one of the hottest towns in the area and the Hotel Kinsley hotelkinsley.com is an amazing edition to the hotel scene here. Originally the home of the New York State Bank, there is a sense of old time New York but with modern amenities. Check out the cocktail lounge here as well as the Restaurant Kinsley where the burger is a must-order. In the Stockyard District, you are surrounded by cute boutiques, restaurants and coffee shops to check out during your weekend stay.
Scribner's Catskill Lodge scribnerslodge.com, located in Hunter, also has quite a bit of history - hotels have been on this property since the 1880s! The hotel has been renovated for today with great public areas, pool outside and close to ski resorts as well. Prospect is the restaurant on-site, but be sure to check out some of the other local restaurants like Phoenicia Diner & Brios for some delicious pizza!
So whether you are reading this in the peak of Summer or freezing during winter, you have some ideas on where to stay when you book your trip for the Catskills!
