Boutique hotels are not prevalent in Marfa, Texas.....so please trust us on this one and just heed our boutique hotel expertise. 🤓
But first, a little bit about Marfa, Texas - this small town of 1700 people is located in West Texas and if you are looking for a road trip through Texas, this might be the perfect stop for you. Six and a half hours due west of Austin, this is a center for minimalist art. But before you get to Marfa, be sure to check out Prada Marfa about 25 miles north. It's this super cool art installation created by Elmgreen & Dragset. It looks like a Prada storefront, but you can't go into it. Sounds a little odd, I know, but check it out if you are in the area.
Back to Marfa, it has become quite a hot spot for artists and gallery spaces abound throughout the downtown. With this influx of artists has come a few boutique hotels to cater to the people that make the trek. Here are some of our favorites.....
El Cosmico is a nomadic hotel and campground about 10 minutes away from downtown Marfa. You have your choice of vintage trailers, safari tents, tepees....lots of options for you!!! There is a communal kitchen, rent a woodfire Dutch hot tub (for those cool Fall nights!) and enjoy the hammock grove for a relaxing nap. 💤
Built back in the 1930s, Hotel Paisano offers a different experience with 41 rooms to choose from. Heated pool, fitness center and Jett's Grill are available to all guests. The hotel also has a beautiful courtyard where you can sip on the best margarita in town! 🥂
A relatively new boutique hotel to Marfa, Hotel St. George opened in 2016 on the same spot that the original hotel was built way back in 1886. While you can see parts of the original hotel repurposed into art by local artists, the hotel itself has the modern touches of a brand new hotel. The pool is a must, grab a pizza at Laventure and a cocktail at the bar while you aren't visiting art galleries.
Now that you are schooled in your Marfa boutique hotel options, once you book that trip to Texas, you will be all set! 😉
